At Lavoom Salon, our lash artists understand the importance of choosing the right lash mapping and style to suit each client’s unique features. The same length and curl can look very different depending on an individual’s natural appearance. A set that looks beautiful and lifted on one client could appear droopy or tired on another, making it crucial to design lash maps accordingly. Understanding different eye shapes helps us select the perfect mappings, ensuring our clients feel confident and fall in love with their lash extensions. Follow along as we explore various eye shapes and how to complement them best. Your satisfaction is our priority!
Emphasis Areas
Certain clients may require extra attention or correction in specific areas of their eyes, known as the ‘Emphasis Area’ in the lash industry. This is usually the largest section of our mapping and is intended to enhance the client’s natural eye shape.
Consulting With Our Clients
While we specialize in enhancing specific eye shapes and minimizing attention to areas that might be considered less desirable, some clients prefer to enhance their natural features without altering their eye shape. We always conduct thorough consultations before each lash service to understand your expectations. A helpful question during this process is, “What do you like and dislike about your eyes currently?” If you’re unsure, our skilled technicians will create a look that complements your features. If you express any dislikes, we will focus on those ‘Emphasis Areas.’
Eye Shapes and Lash Mapping
Almond Eye Shape
Suitable for any mapping
Direct lashes upward at the outer corners to avoid drooping
Outer corners may need extra attention
Use drastic length drops or higher curls at the outer corners to prevent drooping
Emphasis area: depends on the chosen style and map
Round Eye Shape
Complemented by shorter lengths
Aim to elongate the appearance
Squirrel mapping works well
Straight curls are often more suitable
Emphasis area: nearing the outer corner, excluding weak outer lashes
Narrow Monolid Eye Shape
Aim to create a more open appearance
Open Eye, Doll Eye, and Squirrel Eye mappings are good options
Suitable curls: M, L, CC, B, D
Emphasis area: middle of the eye
Downturned Eyes
Challenging to correct
Use longer lengths and extreme curls like CC, D, M, L where the outer ‘droop’ begins
For inner corners or ‘lifted’ areas, use shorter B or C curls to avoid drawing attention
Modified squirrel mapping is best
Use short lashes on the outer corners and direct them upward
Emphasis area: middle to outer corner
Upturned Eyes
Suitable for any style, especially Cat Eye
Any curl will match
Ideal for lashing
Emphasis area: not applicable
Close Set Eyes
Complemented by longer lengths toward the outer corners
Squirrel or Cat Eye mapping is best
Emphasis area: nearing the outer corner, excluding weak outer lashes
To determine close set eyes: if the space between the eyes is less than the width of one eye, they are close set.
Wide Set Eyes
Direct extensions upward and lash all inner corners
Doll or Open Eye mapping is best
Emphasis area: middle of the eye
To determine wide set eyes: if the space between the eyes is greater than the width of one eye, they are wide set.
HOODED EYES
Hooded eyelids have an extra layer of skin that sits over the crease, so the lids will look smaller. You will want to consider creating the illusion of depth when choosing eyelash extensions. Opt for a set that has the longest lashes at the center and tapers at the end.
CLOSE-SET EYES
Just like the name implies, close-set eyes don’t have much space between them. In fact, they are less than one eyeball apart. To make them appear wider, it’s best to use natural-looking lashes. Your extensions should have shorter lashes at the inner corners of the eyes and longer lashes toward the ends.
SINGLE LIDDED EYES
Single lidded eyes have just one crease and can look very small. Choosing eyelash extensions that are both short and long can give the eyes a fuller and more dramatic look. Stay away from the heavy full volume that will not look as natural as you would want.
ROUND EYES
Round eyes have the same width and height. This eye shape looks its best when longer lash extensions are applied to the outer corners of the eyes. This choice will create the natural cat-eye effect.
ALMOND EYES
Almond eyes have a long oval shape and look very distinctive. Placing longer eye extensions in the middle of the eyes can widen them. Although to be fair various lash types work well in this case. This will depend mostly on personal preference.
Explore the Best Lash Extension Styles for Your Eye Shape
At Lavoom Salon, we offer a variety of lash extension styles to enhance your natural beauty and complement your unique eye shape. Understanding which style works best for your eye shape can help you achieve your desired look. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the different lash extension styles and their best matches:

Round Eyes: Adds definition and elongates the eyes without overwhelming them.
Narrow Monolid Eyes: Provides a clean, natural look that adds a bit of length and definition.

2. Hybrid Lash Extensions
Hybrid lashes combine Classic and Volume techniques to create a fuller, textured look. This style blends the natural elegance of Classic lashes with the added volume of Volume lashes.

Round Eyes: Balances the natural width and height with added volume for a dramatic effect.
Upturned Eyes: Enhances the natural lift and adds a voluminous flair.
Wide Set Eyes: Brings focus and balance with fuller lashes.
